Capacity Planning
Step-by-step incremental capacity planning for mining hardware at 0.05 TH/s and above — Jeju field methodology.
Why Incremental Planning Matters
Adding mining capacity in one lump order is how breaker panels fail in August and fans scream at property lines. Incremental planning means each equipment batch earns its place: verified headroom, verified airflow, verified noise, before the next pallet arrives.
Portalhemlockcore documents this sequence on every Jeju site we visit. The steps below mirror our flagship consultation — use them as a checklist or hire us to execute each stage with measurements.
Baseline Meter Archive
Gather three months of utility bills and continuous meter logs if you have them. Note tourist-season peaks on Jeju — guesthouse districts pull grid load differently than agricultural zones. Baseline demand subtracted from service rating reveals true electrical headroom.
Rack and PDU Inventory
Photograph every rack position, PDU label, and cable run. Record unit model, claimed hashrate, and observed watts per hashboard where accessible. Equipment at 0.05 TH/s and above varies widely in footprint — inventory prevents ordering machines that physically do not fit aisle spacing.
Thermal Walk at Worst Hour
Measure intake and exhaust between 14:00 and 16:00 on a humid day. Mark hot aisles on a sketch. Immersion clients check coolant inlet temperature and loop pressure. Summer on Jeju is the stress test — spring readings mislead.
Shortlist With Headroom Math
Match candidate units to remaining amps and BTU removal capacity. We maintain reference tables for stock efficiency; aftermarket firmware changes require on-site sampling. Never shortlist from brochure TH alone.
Stage Orders to Infrastructure
First batch fits without construction. Second batch follows PDU or duct work. Third batch may need service upgrade. Each stage has a go/no-go gate based on measured data — not purchase deadlines from distributors.
Post-Install Verification
Within 72 hours of energizing new units, re-measure hash stability, panel load, and noise at the boundary. Log results next to pre-install readings. Incremental planning closes when data confirms the room accepted the load.
